The current Major Magic: the Gathering tournament this weekend is the Mythic Championships on the Historic format. This is an exclusive Magic Arena format and I think this is the first time to a major event level that this was held. It is currently being streamed on Wizard’s Twitch channel and also got the text coverage via Twitter on their Magic the Gathering Esports account.
The top tier decks in the format somewhat reflect that of Standard. To be specific, Jund is one of the people’s decks of the choice and the majority of its components are the same as the Standard version prior to the banning of the cat combo. Other decks are Mono Black Gifts, Rakdos Sacrifice, Goblins, and Mono-Green Ramp. Goblins is probably the most aggressive archetype in this metagame.
As of this posting, the upper bracket finals was between Gabriel Nassif’s Jund Sacrifice and Luis Salvatto’s Rakdos Arcanist and Nassif emerged as the winner in a close matchup with a lot of sacrifice triggers resolved. I personally liked the Rakdos Arcanist deck, which have dominated the preliminary rounds in the first and second day of the tournament.
The conclusion and final day of the Historic Mythic Invitational will be done tomorrow so stay tuned on their coverage channel. You can check the postings here.
