Throwback Thursday MTG Deck: Urza Saga Enchantress deck

The Urza Saga Enchantress deck is a type of Magic: The Gathering deck that focuses on using the “Enchantress” archetype, centered around cards that trigger beneficial effects whenever enchantments are cast or enter the battlefield. The name “Urza Saga” refers to the “Urza’s Saga” expansion set, which was released in 1998 and contained many powerful enchantments that synergized well with this deck strategy.

The core concept of the Urza Saga Enchantress deck is to generate card advantage and incremental value by constantly casting enchantments, drawing additional cards, and gaining various benefits.

Enchantresses are key cards in this deck, and they typically have abilities like “Whenever you cast an enchantment, draw a card.” By chaining these enchantments together, the deck can quickly refill its hand, maintain control of the board, and outvalue opponents.

Some of the essential cards you might find in an Urza Saga Enchantress deck include:

Enchantresses: Argothian Enchantress, Enchantress’s Presence, Verduran Enchantress, and others.

Card Draw Engines: Eidolon of Blossoms, Mesa Enchantress, Satyr Enchanter, etc.

Enchantment Support: Utopia Sprawl, Wild Growth, Fertile Ground, etc., which provide mana acceleration and trigger the enchantress abilities.

Removal and Protection: Various enchantment-based removals like Oblivion Ring, Banishing Light, and protection cards like Privileged Position, Sterling Grove, etc.

Win Conditions: While the deck primarily focuses on controlling the game through card advantage, it will also include win conditions such as Sigil of the Empty Throne (creating angel tokens when enchantments are cast), or other Sacred Mesa to generate a lot of Pegasus tokens as finishers in the late game. Depending on the specific build, there are various ways for the deck to win and finish off opponents’ life total.

The Urza Saga Enchantress deck might have evolved and changed over the years with the introduction of new expansions and cards but nothing can compare to the power level of its days during the Urza block sets.
