Welcome New Iloilo MTG Judges

I would like to dedicate this blog post to congratulate my teammates Ace Baron and Oliver Mastilero for passing the qualifications to become Level 1 judges. They took the exam and interview together with Raoul on

that PPTQ weekend in Bacolod City with Level 2 Judge Reuben Ferrer as their mentor. Judge Reuben also asked for my testimonials as he had not known the background of the three examinees. I was able to send it to him that Sunday early morning just before he gave the exam. After that exam was the assessment of the roles of the judges in the MTG Iloilo community. Their accounts were then created on the Judge App website and the certification was given last Friday.

Ace was tasked to be the TO and store judge for Critical Hit: Comics and Games and Oliver would probably do the same to the third shop in the city in the future. For now, we are discussing on conducting judge-related activities like new rules and policy forums with the Iloilo players. The probable date will be next week during the release weekend of Guilds of Ravnica. We have yet to finalize that one. I’d also hope they would be part of major events such as those held in Manila. There will be an upcoming PPTQ this December here in Iloilo City so it will be a first for them to practice their skills and learn the roles of a floor judge for example. I have also asked them about their familiarity with the new mechanics in GRN so that they can help answer the players’ inquiries on this weekend’s prerelease events.

Again, welcome to the Magic: the Gathering Judges club Ace and Oliver!
