Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Introduces the Newest Anti-Burn Card

The card spoilers from the upcoming Magic: the Gathering set, Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, continue to impress the players and fans of the game and proving the set to be an impressive one. For today’s card previews, they revealed another card that will surely be the bane of burn-based decks.

Check out Rem Karolus, Stalwart Slayer.

A 2/3 Flying, Haste for three Boros mana is already above average stat for an aggressive creature. Its passive abilities are its greatest feat. A static ability to prevent damage is annoying enough for Burn opponents and even just for Standard gameplay where red-based decks use these spells as their removals and finishers.

Its offensive bonus ability then is with your burn spells where they deal an additional one damage. It is easy now killing a 4/4 creature with your 3-damage burn spell. Making burn spells a more efficient and quicker way of dealing with a threat or winning the game.

Its own drawback of course is that it couldn’t protect itself from spot removals and burn spells. This can be easily mitigated by using protection and hexproof spells. You can slow-roll Rem Karolus by turn four or five so as you’d have enough mana to cast the hex in case the opponent will destroy it.

Rem Karolus, Stalwart Slayer looks to be more efficient and maximized in a Modern Boros Burn deck while for Standard, the possibility of a pure burn deck may be slim but having two copies in the list may be enough. It is also a Human so I am thinking of a Naya Humans archetype with Sigarda as its flying anthem.

That is about it for this Innistrad: Midnight Hunt card feature, until the next blog post.
