The deck idea was referenced from TradeWind’s list in MTGO Standard Daily (#7218328) in which he got fourth place. The list got an update from M15 with Battlefield Forge as well as the White Soul of Theros and Wall of Essence on the sideboard. I cut Aurelia and Flame-Wreathed Phoenix from his original list in favor of the doom engine and SoT.
Prophetic Flamespeaker fits perfectly in this control version because of low-cost spot removals as well as a one-sided board sweep of Mizzium Mortars. It also has powerful walkers in the late game with Chandra providing card advantage and Elspeth, Sun’s Champion on board advantage.
The sideboard for the control matchups looks stable already but I think I should also include Boros Charm as a protection for Planar Cleansing and removals like Hero’s Downfall and Abrupt Decay.
Does the list look viable enough to compete in M15 Standard? Let me know by commenting below.
Until the next post.
