Rotation in Standard is approximately three weeks from now and we have that time left to pay our tributes to the Innistrad block which we surely enjoyed the Transylvania theme and gameplay. With those, we left the past and soon we embrace the future of the format with the Gods of Theros. I am sure players are already brewing decks for Theros standard, I myself included. My deck to feature today is an archetype which I think does not even fade or get affected by the rotations. It is still a crowd favorite even from the early days of Magic up to now.
I present to you, Mono Red post Theros Standard:
Red Deck Wins by Mark Ian Alloso
THS Standard
Lands
23 Mountain
Creatures
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Firefist Striker
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Chandra’s Phoenix
4 Purphoros, God of the Forge
Spells
1 Hammer of Purphoros
4 Magma Jet
4 Shock
The deck just revolves on curving the one two three punch and wrapping up with the Forge God, Purphoros. The new cards are all confirmed at the mothership aside from Magma Jet which I am sure it’ll make a huge impact in the deck once verified as a reprint.
Young Pyromancer might be awkward here because of only eight Instants but then, we’ll give the apprentice wizard a chance. This is also to make your emissaries efficient on turn 2, with higher chance of tagging a friend.
The other critter cards are the best red creatures the format has to offer at the moment, and Hammer of Purphoros makes sure they turn sideways as they go into the battlefield.
Purphoros, God of the Forge is already included in my Theros buylist so I am pretty excited to trial run this deck once the set is out.
*as of this posting, Magma Jet is now confirmed from a reliable source. Yay!
