As we continue to explore the current Standard metagame of Ravnica, we get back again on one of the classics and I think the truest color of a control deck: Blue and White. Since we got that guild back, I will now discuss a build based on the current meta of Standard.
Here is the list:
Azorius Control
By Mark Ian Alloso
Maindeck
1 Angel of Serenity
3 Snapcaster Mage
3 Azorius Charm
4 Azorius Keyrune
2 Detention Sphere
3 Dissipate
3 Entreat the Angels
3 Jace, Architect of Thought
2 Tamiyo, the Moon Sage
1 Sphinx’s Revelation
1 Supreme Verdict
2 Syncopate
4 Terminus
4 Think Twice
4 Azorius Guildgate
4 Glacial Fortress
4 Hallowed Fountain
6 Island
6 Plains
The list was referenced from that of Edgar Flores in TCGPlayer Open 5k in Brooklyn, with the new add-ons Angel of Serenity and Syncopate. The latter was to increase the counterspell count to deal with the Thragtusks, Armada Wurms and other Angels of Serenity. This mythic Angel is sort of a pseudo-removal and a threat at the same time.
The deck is sort-of blue-white Miracles due to Terminus and Entreat the Angels, and goes well with the set of Think Twice. Jace is, of course, Jace but I would not want him clogging early in hand against fish-type decks. I think three is the right number.
The sideboard would look like this, which is pretty basic:
1 Dispel
3 Geist of Saint Traft
2 Jace, Memory Adept
3 Negate
1 Nevermore
2 Purify the Grave
1 Sphinx’s Revelation
2 Supreme Verdict
Nevermore is just naming specific cards from midrange decks like Angel of Serenity, Griselbrand or Unburial Rites. I am also considering Witchbane Orb against Slaughter Games and Duress. We’ll see if that is really needed.
Until next post.
