This deck build I am writing today is basically a recollection of the previous build I made when Innistrad first came out. I think that was December last year. It involved on putting tokens into the battlefield and pumping them with enchantments. Well for this time, Return to Ravnica specifically from the Selesnya guild offered new components to use for this deck strategy.
Here is my initial list:
Junk Parallel Tokens
By Mark Ian Alloso
Lands
4 Temple Garden
4 Isolated Chapel
4 Sunpetal Grove
4 Plains
4 Forest
1 Gavony Township
1 Grove of the Guardian
1 Woodland Cemetery
1 Overgrown Tomb
Creatures
2 Geist-Honored Monk
2 Thragtusk
Spells
1 Rootborn Defenses
2 Midnight Haunting
3 Garruk Relentless
1 Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
2 Tragic Slip
3 Parallel Lives
4 Lingering Souls
4 Intangible Virtue
4 Selesnya Charm
4 Call of the Conclave
4 Farseek
The new RTR card additions are Call of the Conclave , Selesnya Charm, Rootborn Defenses and of course the shocklands. The strategy here is to setup token creatures and at times abuse the generating spells with Parallel Lives. I’ve just realized this enchantment being unfair after I played against it on last Saturday’s Standard tournament. This card advantage is just very awesome to think that Ratchet Bomb has now out of Standard.
The ideal play is a turn three P.Lives via Farseek and play out your Lingering souls or Conclave calling and stuff. Intangible Virtue for token pump and Rootborn Defenses is for, well defense, and a bonus Populate.
I am not sure if Tragic Slip would be effective in the deck as I would not consider Ultimate Price as a good spot removal. I want to deal with/answer multi color creatures. I might also consider Trostani in the list but her Populate ability is somewhat slow when you are only copying a 1/1 Spirit token.
Let me know what other cards to consider in the deck. Hit the comments below.
Thanks and until next post!
