Standard Deck Tech: Oracle Burn

Oracle-Bones-Deck-Tech-Standard
It is already past one month when Born of the Gods became legal to play in the Standard format, but I think there are still cards in the set that are waiting to fit in the right deck archetype. One of which and that I will discuss for today is Oracle of Bones. It is a pseudo Keldon Champion with the ‘drawback’ of getting a free casted spell if the tribute is not paid. It might be not as powerful as Bloodbraid Elf, but with the right choices of spells it can function in a similar manner.

What got my attention on this card was from the decks listed in Reconstructed column in the mothership site. Here is what I’ve came up with:

Oracle Burn by Mark Ian Alloso
Standard

Lands
1 Mutavault
1 Temple of Silence
10 Mountain
3 Temple of Malice
4 Temple of Triumph
4 Sacred Foundry

Creatures
4 Chandra’s Phoenix
4 Oracle of Bones
2 Satyr Firedancer
4 Ash Zealot

Spells
4 Boros Charm
3 Lava Axe
4 Lightning Strike
4 Searing Blood
4 Skullcrack
4 Warleader’s Helix

The core spells and the playset of Chandra’s Phoenix are referenced from the Boros Burn list that has been getting popular recently in the Daily and Premier Events in MTGO. The new spell which I think would be sure hit when combined with the oracle is the classic Lava Axe. ‘Catching’ your opponents with an eight-damage turn sure is a big life-swing.

Satyr Firedancer was toned down to just two in the deck to allot the slot to the hasty Ash Zealot, which the deck needed in order to deal early damage and within the burn range.

The land distribution gets you nine sources for White and three sources for Black. The latter color splash is for the Toil/Trouble sideboard as well as your additional draw fixer because of Scry.

Do you think Oracle of Bones fits well in this deck archetype? Let me know with your comments on the box below.

Until next post.
