Things are starting to turn back to normal, minus the health protocols and liquor ban in the city and province of Iloilo. Restaurants are starting to operate again with Iloilo city‘s quarantine status to the Modified General one.

That said, people are starting to go out, and with the supposedly scheduled Dinagyang 2021 this weekend, which will be more of a virtual presentation, there are a few activities and events that the local government allowed while also making sure that public gatherings are regulated.

In my end of vlogging and the recent bike long ride hobby, I decided to also integrate this trip to enjoy not only the city bike tour but also visiting some of the newest restos that offer at one side unique delicacies and the other Ilonggo-native dishes.

I had somewhat covered it in a few of my bike vlogs these past weeks. To note Bike Ride to Akamon Ramen and Bike Ride to the Banquetta Exhibit in Festive Walk.

As a follow-up, I decided to have a checklist of the places to bike to as I have observed from my Facebook newsfeed and in particular at the Kaon Ta Iloilo group. That way, it will be easy for me to plan out the route beforehand and easier to discuss in the blog video.

The next issue now is the time going there as the weekdays are jam-packed for work and since the schedule at the office is now back to 8-5, I could not fit in to visit the place due to it is already late in the afternoon. Anyhow, the weekend is my best option for now and if given that we can get out early, then that is another opportunity to record a visit.

We shall see in the coming weeks.

Iloilo City Bike Lane Route Observations

Yesterday I decided to pass by the bike lanes in the Iloilo City General Luna street area during the rush hours in the afternoon after our office in the City Hall. That is after my objective of dropping by the local game store to give the Magic: the Gathering foil promo packs won by the teammate which he sold to another local player.

From the Iloilo Terminal Market area, I went to Jalandoni Street then going to Gen. Luna street and found somewhat standstill traffic as a lot of vehicles were lining up on the intersection of these roads. I just then realized that the bridge going to Brgy. Nabitasan is under repair and is closed to traffic.

That was my intended route going to the Diversion road. I then saw that beside it is the connecting esplanade bike lanes and so after passing through a short stall of traffic, I got off my bike and carried it up the stairs into the oval area. It was quite satisfying to get out of that traffic and maybe people can notice the benefits of having the esplanade bike lanes there. Now I get to pass by that bike lane route going to the Diversion road and also I was able to check the connecting bike lane along the bridge and to observe the bike traffic on those hours.

I then pedaled through the main bike lane in Diversion Road wherein the plan was to go to Akamon Ramen Bar to try their new Curry Ramen. It was my cravings during these past weeks so that was the ideal time to go there. A few bikers were going home from work and also some joggers who are enjoying the afternoon exercising because of no rain. That was quite a break after almost a month of rainy afternoon weather.

Going back, I know that the SM Strata bike rack was placed on the second floor so I had to a short bike climb going there and I think that was impractical and unfriendly for the bikers as we are not using motorized vehicles that can easily climb up the ramp on to the 2nd-floor parking. There were a few bikes parked there when I arrived and I am sure they also faced the same problem. I have raised this concern to the Iloilo BIke City FB group and hopefully, some officials can take notice and do the necessary actions.

Anyhow, to wrap up the day, a bowl of Akamon’s Curry Ramen to satisfy and lived up to the expectations. This premium dish is priced for only P250 so grab one today. Akamon Ramen Bar is located on the ground floor of SM Strata and can be easily spotted from the bike lane.

Overall, these bike lanes are expected to garner more bike traffic in the coming months as the new normal lifestyle, and people appreciating the benefits of bicycles in their daily routines. Some parts of these lanes also need repairs and maintenance as I’ve noticed broken and disconnected bricks that may cause harm for bikers if they stepped into it. Also, the plants should be trimmed as some of their branches are already inside the lane and hinders the passageway. 

I appreciate all of the continuous support of the local government and I do hope that more programs and projects will come to fruition so that Iloilo City can truly deserve its title of becoming the bike capital of the country.

Iloilo Transport Route plan & MtG Gameplay

While I am browsing the manual on local public transportation planning, I kept on wondering if the revision or let say updating of our current transport plan in Iloilo City will have an impact positively. Surely that is already the main objective of the LGU which is to improve the public transportation system and also the effect is to have a fair deal with the various public transport groups in terms of their livelihood.

One of the steps is to check on the current transport route of the PUJs, City buses, tricycles, and also the trisikad. Also, how these various transportation modes affect each other on certain roads. In that way, the technical working group can have an assessment as to which areas would need adjustments in the terms of the volume of traffic and also the efficiency of getting the passengers from point A to point B.

Planning a route is also possible in the concept of Magic: the Gathering gameplay. The transport route elements have their equivalent, for example, point A is the start of the match and point B is when you’ve won against the opponent. Getting there is how you would plan out your game depending on what your starting hand is, what your deck aims to achieve, strengths and weaknesses, and your win conditions. You can also classify the modes of transportation into specific archetype gameplay.

Public utility jeepneys can be considered as a midrange deck (a build between aggro and control) as it can go fast in certain scenarios for example the passenger capacity is already full and that they would all be going to a certain market or plaza, the driver then has no other but to get there as soon as possible as he cannot pickup any other passengers along his route. In instances where there is a lot of stops and passenger drop-offs, we can say that it is in the control route of winning the game.

The same can be said for other deck archetypes that have specific ways of achieving the W on their match slip. Another example is the control deck, we can associate it as an MRT train with specific stops on its lane and it is required to stop by each of those. It can be said that it is quite slow but there is a definite time of arriving at a certain stop. A control deck usually starts slowly with cantrip spells to smoothen their draws, counterspells for threats, and mass removals against early aggro. Those serve as the stop points before going to your main win conditions as you are getting closer to the destination point.

To conclude, choosing the mode of transportation might be ideal or not in particular routes but making sure that you reach the destination at a minimum time is very essential. Hence, the improvement of the transport route plan should be done.
