
The Standard Pauper tournament was held at IBAM in Marymart once again to accommodate the new players as well as promote the store. I was expecting more attendees but then again the venue’s tables can only accommodate up to 8 players. Anyhow, we were able to gather 8 participants which means 3 rounds of gameplay with the first prize of an MtG Funko Pop figure.

The past weekend was a travel to Manila for me as I went to participate in the first leg of the World Magic Cup Qualifiers. The tournament did not go well so I decided to just check the players’ binders so I could complete my buy list for that trip.
Here is a Standard deck tech from the recent WMCQ I Philippines held last weekend in Manila. The innovative deck looks like a straightforward B/G aggro but with an Eldrazi twist as it uses Thought-Knot Seers and Reality Smashers. It was piloted by Zax Ozaki, whom I regard as one of the best players in the country. He finished 2nd place in the event, losing to a Blue Red Eldrazi Ramp deck.
A week after the aftermath of the first World Magic Cup Qualifiers in Manila, it is back to the regular tournament schedule with Standard for the regulars and Standard Pauper for the beginners. I have set the latter to be held in IBAM in Marymart Mall as a focal point for access for the new players and those interested in learning the game. As for the Commander format, I have yet to talk with John Marcelo regarding which day they will hold the event on the weekend.
