My first travel abroad was quite memorable and awesome. The city we visited was Singapore. This was on the first week of June 2011. The main purpose was of course Magic related; to attending the Magic: the Gathering Grand Prix. My first GP actually, after failing to attend in Manila last year. Last weekend was a really busy one for Magic communities around the globe. A few countries held their National Championships (including here in the Philippines) and the US had two major events, the SCG 5k at Richmond and the TCGPlayer 75k Champs in Chicago. The Magic: the Gathering Philippine Nationals will be in this coming weekend and my excitement is, well, quite indefinite. This is actually my second time qualifying for this event (the first one was way back in 2003) and the first time I’m actually going there. I’m quite happy because Iloilo’s attendance for this year, as compared to the previous years, is fairly high with seven players qualified. Continue reading
The banning surely had opened up the Magic: the Gathering Standard metagame to new decks and punished a few old ones. Cawblade is the one primarily affected though based on the recent results of big events in the US and various National Championships, the deck is still a powerhouse even without the mind sculptor and the mystic. That would be another topic though as this article is about the other deck affected by the banning, the Boros aggro.

With the release of Magic 2012 in the market this weekend, a lot of preordered singles has been quoted with the expected value. Mythics, specifically Planeswalkers, are expected are pricey value, though I think its too overpriced. We can’t blame the popular card stores for giving the high price, but I expect a decline on the value after two weeks or so. Magic 2012 is good coreset, but it can’t surpass what Magic 2011 has brought to Standard. Continue reading
