Yuuya Watanabe Wins Grand Prix Melbourne

Grand Prix Melbourne in Australia finished with Yuuya Watanabe winning on top. Yuuya defeated a fellow Japanese and Pro player Tomoharu Saito with his blue-black deck with the bomb rare Sphinx of Jwar Isle. Saito drafted a controllish black green deck with 2 Marsh Casualties, the Vampire legend Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet, and with splash for blue and red. Their record was two games to one. Here are the drafted deck list of the two. Continue reading

MTG Black Red Blightning in Zendikar Standard

Hi all, happy Friday! I hope your weekend will be productive in Mtg tournaments and other stuff. For this post, I’ll analyze the Black Red Blightning deck, one of the top decks in pre-Zendikar Standard. The deck suffered a lot on this rotation with the loss of its important components. We said goodbye to Demigod of Revenge, Figure of Destiny, Boggart Ram-Gang, Flame Javelin, and to the black red lands Auntie’s Hovel and Graven Cairns. The question now is: Is the deck still competitive enough in the new Standard? We’ll soon find out as Zendikar becomes legal on tournaments this weekend.

Tournament Report: Zendikar Prerelease

Hey all. I hope you all had a good Magic: the Gathering Zendikar prerelease weekend opening your desired fetchlands, Planeswalkers and other good cards. I just felt bad because Saturday was also the day that the tropical storm Ondoy ravaged our nation’s capital Manila and the nearby provinces. Casualties and death are still increasing as of the moment and I hope those people affected get enough help to return their lives to normal.

Post Zendikar Decks: Vampires

Hey all. This is my third take on the possible decks in post Zendikar Standard metagame. Previously I’ve discussed about the Ally class in Zendikar and for this post we will go with the deck that may possibly give rise to Black to be a Tier 1 deck in Standard. I’m referring to the Mono black Vampires deck.

To recall, Magic 2010 core set has given us a hint on the Vampire tribe with Vampire Aristocrat and the mythic rare Vampire Nocturnus. Let us see what Zendikar vampires we could use for the deck. (Refer to the Zendikar spoilers for card info.) Continue reading

Post Zendikar Decks: The ‘Allies’

Happy Friday all. Its been a while since my last quality post because of a messed mind set. Maybe its an effect of the awesomeness of card previews this week which confused me on which one to write first. Anyway, I better do this first before I loss the momentum.

The next prediction I will make on the post Zendikar decks in Standard would be the new breed of a tribe deck or rather a creature sub class. Yes, I’m talking about Zendikar’s Ally creatures. Since Zendikar’s theme focused on treasures, quests, and traps, these class of citizens in Zendikar adds up as an ally or allies to help in your adventures and achieving them.  Lets take a look at a few Ally class creatures spoiled so far. Post Zendikar Decks: Naya Aggro

The Standard rotation is drawing near. We will be saying goodbye to our Lorwyn tribe buddies, specifically the aggressive kithkins, the gentle Treefolks, the fiery Elementals, the Elves and the ever hated tribe that ruled most of the Standard, the Faeries. At this time, I’m guessing you are already predicting and preparing for the decks after the rotation. Most will probably stick with the decks from the Shards block or try the mono color theme Zendikar offers. Continue reading
