The Project Zaku Contest

I was thinking on improving my ‘level’ on my Gunpla hobby. Gundam collecting is one part, and modeling makes it a dedicated sideline. It took me quite a lot of time learning the various techniques in improving and achieving the desired finish of the model kits. Up to now it’s still on-going, on finding other techniques and being updated on new ones.

One method to motivate me on my level and to raise my competitive side is to join a Gunpla building contest. It is not my first time on joining one.

The beginning was last December on a Gunpla group in Facebook. My kit for that contest was the HG Tallgeese in which I color schemed into the Red Horse beer product. The colors were not that close and I lacked details and decals to make it more ‘commercial’. One reason of the blunder was the lack of time due to unexpected busy work schedule. I promised now to make a comeback on the next competition.

Opportunity Presented

Another ground called Pinoy Gundam announced a contest for their midyear ‘kitakits’ event in June. They decided that there will be a uniform model kit to use for the event. They called it the 1st PG ZAKU Summer Yarian Challenge, and will be using any 1/100 scale Zaku. There are two categories, namely OOTB + Custom Paint and Custom Build. Obviously, I’ve joined the first category as I still have to learn how to scratch build parts and custom them into the kit.

Here is the Zaku that I’ll be using:

The mechanics for Category A are as follows:

A. OOTB + Custom Paint/Staightbuild

-Entry Kit should be assembled out of the box
-custom paint is allowed
-scribing is not allowed – (iba ang panel line to avoid confusion)
-custom decals are not allowed (kung ano ang available sa kit, yun lang ang gagamitin)
-small props are allowed (1/100 Pilot and 1/100 Mobile Suit Scale Flag are ok)
-weathering is not allowed
-diorama is not allowed

So it’s basically my standard build plus a custom color theme. I am planning on making it a Desert type Zaku since I already have most of the paints in my storage. Though I am still open on other color designs, depending on what comes up.

It will be more or less two months from now, so I think I still have ample time to decide on the colors and start on the build.

Wish me luck on this Gunpla competition. 🙂
