Deck of the Week: Grixis Control
It has been awhile since we had our deck for the week so I decided to bring it back, this time during Fridays. Hopefully, I can sneak a post for it in my sked. For this week, I’ll feature the deck that got 1st place in the Cruise Qualifier in Indianapolis, Indiana last March 29. It is a control deck based on the color of the Grixis shard (Blue-Black-Red) with the almost forgotten Demigod of Revenge as the bad a$$ beater and win condition. This week’s deck feature is a Magic: the Gathering Standard take of one of Magic’s favorite decks: Mono Black. It was created by Jim Stafford and got 7th at State Championships 2008 in Wyoming. The list uses the powerful black creatures in Standard like Ashenmoor Gouger and Demigod of Revenge, and spot removals like Unmake and Nameless Inversion. It also uses Dusk Urchins, which served both as a beater and card drawer source.
