Hey guys, a lot of card updates for the upcoming Zendikar set has been revealed today. First off is the complete Sorin Markov planeswalker card. The final piece of the puzzle which is the second ability was revealed at the official Magic site today. It states, “-3 (Pay three loyalty): Target Opponent’s life total becomes 10.” Its a pretty awesome ability that negates whatever the life the opponent has whether its 40, 400 or even 4,000,000 (which is possible for combo decks). Here is the complete Sorin Markov planeswalker card that we will about to see in booster packs this October: Read more

French Site Previews A Zendikar Angel

Hey y’all. The Zendikar preview for today came from a French site named Magic Ville in which they showed a white card with an angel art, a flavor text and a name that translates as Iona, Shield of Emeria. Check out the French preview card below.

The card art is also from the two Zendikar playmat products. A closer look at the card image shows that the angel is somewhat casting a spell that wrecks the ruins around her.

This gave me a hint that the card could have an Landfall ability effect. Also, the 3 pairs of Angel wings reminds me of that guardian angel from the game Diablo. Lol. Anyway, my guess of the ability would be like destroying another target land when a land comes into the battlefield under your control or the much powerful Armageddon-like comes into the battlefield effect when you play this angel. The flavor text translates to “The righteous will no longer tremble before evil.” Pretty cool one.

I know everyone of you hate this slow spoiling of the cards but let’s just be patient and see what surprise Wizards has it for us.

Yes you’ve read it right folks. It was revealed today at our favorite Rumor Mill that there’s a comeback or should we say a functional reprint for Wrath of God in the form of the sorcery spell Day of Judgment. This will be provided as a promo card for Magic Full Box Promotion (just like the previous Honor of the Pure in M10) for participating store outlets. Check out the card, also with a very cool art by Kev Walker, below. Read more

New Chandra Planeswalker Partially Revealed

The rumored new form of the planeswalker Chandra, named as Chandra Flamedancer is now partially revealed on Facebook moments earlier with the art art and frame. Check it out below.

This now confirms the rumor that the new Chandra is still mono red and it is exciting to know what her new abilities would be. As you will notice in today’s meta in Standard, Chandra is the least played planeswalker. I hope this version would be much more improved than the current one. I’m sure you Red burn lovers (that includes me) would be really happy.

Just stay tuned for further updates on Chandra and also on Sorin Markov.

Edit: Chandra is finally named as Chandra Ablaze with a casting cost of 4RR. See the pic below.

Zendikar’s (Rumored) New Mechanic: Landfall

Earlier today (Philippine time), Rush_Clasic from MTG Salvation forums posted an MTG ad for Zendikar that features a card named Rampaging Baloths in the Rumor Mill. The card that can be partially seen in the ad shows a new mechanic called Landfall. Here’s an excerpt of what Rampaging Baloths do:

Rampaging Baloths 4GG
Creature – Beast (Mythic rare)
Trample
Landfall - Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you may put a 4/4 green Beast creature token (onto the battlefield)
6/6

Landfall seems to be a very interesting mechanic to abuse or play around with. With lots of mana search in today’s Standard, there’s a big possibility to build a new generation of mana ramp decks with this mechanic. Come to think of it, it looks very much powerful with the fetchlands in Onslaught.

As of the moment, it is still labeled as a speculation but I’m pretty sure this one isn’t fake unlike the other ad that was released few days ago.

Edit: The power and toughness is now revealed to be 6/6, pretty good for its six mana cost. It is also known that this will be the release card.

Sorin as a Planeswalker in Zendikar

Wizards started to slowly preview one of the planeswalkers in the coming Zendikar set this October with the results of You Decide voting poll. The first preview started with the card art which was really excellent. Wizards never failed to amaze me with regards to card art of upcoming sets. The next preview (which was today) was its loyalty. At first I assumed that Sorin is just a legendary creature but the preview today denied that. See Sorin’s current preview below. Read more

The recent slowdown in internet connection here in the country may have been caused by the quake that hit Japan yesterday. As quoted from this report, “While the exact cause is still to be confirmed, it is likely that the Japan earthquake which occurred yesterday, August 11, 2009 is the reason for the international cable faults.” The rest of the article here. Hey peeps. This is actually a late post but hey, its better late than never. I just got too busy at work. Anyway, the trip was last Tuesday. After my off from work, I went to Jaro Plaza to meet with my brother who had invited me earlier to go to Roxas City to meet with his childhood classmate. I arrived there earlier and had to wait for about an hour (and also was fighting my sleepiness). He arrived around 7:30 in the morning, rested for a bit and we’re headed off to Roxas city. Read more

Tournament Report: Phil. Open Day 2 – Standard (11th place)

Hi all. It’s been one week since I went to Manila to participate in the MTG Philippine Open 2009, together with the rest of Team Iloilo. To recall, Mao and Oliver got invites to the Nationals and the Phil. Open was the side event. They started well on the Standard part but got the losses on the Drafts. On Day 1 of the Philippine Open which is an Alara Block format, I decided to pilot my friend’s 5 color aggro. I started 1-2 and frustrated, decided to drop early because I wasn’t really comfortable with the deck’s lack of removal. I just went ahead and took some pictures of the Day One happenings and promised myself to get it back on the Standard format the next day. Read more
