The current Magic: the Gathering Standard deck archetypes give us the impression that the decks built around Alrund’s Epiphany are still the best choice among the list. The only variance is on how these decks deal with other mirror-type matchups. Some go with Grixis as Black’s discard spells can surely disrupt their gameplan whereas others come up with the Plan B of just burning off opponents’ life totals with copied burn spells.

The current Magic: the Gathering Standard deck setup for the midrange decks in the format goes with having early utility creatures which can later, ramp the deck into its big spells. For control matchups, it can outrace them in mana by casting their best Planeswalkers early on. Not to mention that they can also deal cheap damage if left unchecked. For their aggro matchups, they just simply outmaneuver them with better cards and spot removals.

I have always thought of a way of using Thran Temporal Gateway in a Standard deck and one major reason is that I always open it in my Dominaria booster packs. The concept here is to cheat and bypass the cards’ mana costs and there is no better way than tapping just four mana. Continue reading
